The 2005 Shelby County fair has been moved to Veteran’s Park in Alabaster fair officials announced Wednesday morning.

In order to accommodate up to 300 evacuees from the Gulf coast the John E. Jones Convention Center in Columbiana, the fair’s original site, has been converted into a shelter for the displaced residents.

Fair officials met Tuesday and decided on the new site after learning Monday that the Convention center would be used for the shelter.

The fair remains on schedule for Sept. 19-24 but officials said that while there will be the usual carnival rides, games and food, a decision about whether the annual competitions will be held has not been made
