Mistakes plague Bulldogs

The Montevallo Bulldogs allowed mistakes to get the best of them Friday night as they fell to Dora, 41-21.
Two fumbles on kickoffs and a botched onside kick gave Dora excellent field position and resulted in 21 points.
&uot;We didn’t get it done,&uot; Montevallo head coach Jim King said. &uot;We played hard but we’re still making a lot of mistakes in the red zone and giving up a lot of penalties.&uot;
Running back Leland Johnson and quarterback Chad Glass led the way for Montevallo. Johnson finished with 114 yards rushing on 16 attempts and one touchdown while Glass completed 9-of-25 passes for 219 yards and two scores.
&uot;We had a good gameplan and we were able to do what we wanted to do,&uot; King said. &uot;But the turnovers and stalled drives really hurt us.&uot;
The Bulldogs were led on defense by Brian Fulgham, who finished with 12 tackles and one sack.
The Bulldogs will try to regroup this week as they travel to Holt this Friday night. King said he is hoping his team will put its 1-5 start behind them and show up against the Ironmen.
&uot;Of course, we didn’t want to start 1-5, but we’ve had a few key injuries and that’s just part of football.&uot;
King said, however, that he’s not making any excuses for his team.
&uot;If we were 6-0, I would expect them to play hard,&uot; he said. &uot;If they were 0-6, I would expect the same.&uot;
