UM fine arts calendar under way

The University of Montevallo has planned a number of fine arts events this year.

October events include a Bloch Hall Gallery exhibition of recent work by Dana Hargrove. The work will be on display Oct. 3-Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

&8221;Iphegenia and Other Daughters&8220; by Ellen McLaughlin will be performed Oct. 13-16 at Reynolds Studio Theater. Performances, directed by UM faculty member Marla Dean, include Oct. 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 15-16 at 2 p.m.

General admission is $12, $8 with UM ID.

On Oct. 18, the Dancy Lecture Series will present Cristina Garcia at 7 p.m. at LeBaron Recital Hall. Garcia is an award-winning author of &8221;Dreaming in Cuban&8220; and &8221;Monkey Hunting.&8220;

The fall choral concert will be Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. at LeBaron.

The Magnolia Trio will perform Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at LeBaron. The trio features Lori Ardovino on clarinet, Patricia Pilon on cello and Laurie Middaugh on piano.

The UM Wind Ensemble will perform Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Palmer Auditorium.

The UM Choral Festival will be Oct. 27-29 with the concert at 3 p.m. on Oct. 29 at Palmer.

November events include BFA candidates’ exhibitions on display Monday through Friday Nov. 7 through Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bloch Hall Gallery.

Also on Nov. 7, the Faculty Woodwind Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. at LeBaron Recital Hall.

Featured on Nov. 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. each night will be Opera Scenes at LeBaron.

Student Chamber Ensembles will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 14 at LeBaron.

The UM Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Palmer Auditorium.

&8221;Picnic on the Battlefield&8220; by Fernando Arrabal and &8221;Enchanted Night&8220; by Slawomir Mrozek will be featured Nov. 17-20 at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Nov. 19-20 at Reynolds Studio Theater. The productions are being directed by UM faculty member Vladimire Rovinsky. Cost is $12 for general admission, $8 with a valid UM ID card.

The UM Woodwind Workshop is planned for Nov. 18-19.

Woodwinds Lori Ardovino and Kim Bain accompanied by Laurie Middaugh on piano will perform Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at LeBaron Recital Hall.

The Faculty Woodwind Quintet will perform again at 10 a.m. on Nov. 19 at LeBaron.

Student Chamber Ensembles will also be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at LeBaron.

The Woodwind Workshop Concert will also be Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. at LeBaron.

The UM Chamber Singers will perform Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at LeBaron.

The UM University Chorus will perform Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at LeBaron.

The university’s Holiday Feast will be Dec. 2-3 at 6:30 p.m. each night in Anna Irvin Dining Hall. For ticket information, call the College of Fine Arts at 665-6663.
