Student of the Week: Lane Morrison

Lane Morrison, a 17-year-old senior from Calera Middle/High School, is Shelby County Reporter student of the week.
Calera Middle/High principal Ken Mobley selected him for the honor.
&8220;Lane Morrison is the SGA president, and he has the character traits that will make him a successful adult. Lane is a natural leader with the good human relation skills that will help him in his profession of choice.&8221;
Mobley added, &8220;He’s the guy who wants to be and is everybody’s friend. He’s my &8216;go to guy.’&8221;
Lane is the son of Randy and Norma Morrison and has one sister, Heather, age 21, who is a student at the University of Montevallo.
Lane said math is his favorite subject, &8220;Because I like to work with numbers and formulas.&8221;
He said his favorite teacher was Margaret Powell who taught him sixth grade science. She is still teacher at Calera Middle/High.
&8220;She made learning fun while we were having a good time. We didn’t realize we were learning, but we were. She was always there for us,&8221; Lane said.
In addition to serving as president of the Student Government Association, Lane is also senior class president, a member of the math team, the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society and earned recognition for A Honor Roll/Principal’s List.
He maintains a 4.19 grade point average on a 4-point scale.
Lane also likes to read, watch sports, fish and operate the soundboard at his church.
He said his favorite superhero is Superman because, &8220;He tries his best always to do whatever he can to help people.&8221;
Lane said he plans to attend the University of Alabama and to become a civil engineer.
&8220;I’d like to plan out buildings and roads so it would be easy on people to drive around … to be able to make a difference in people’s lives just because of my work,&8221; he said
