Raiders’ quarterback Jake Ingram rushed for three touchdowns and Rick McBride earned 108 yards on 14 carries Friday night to help Shelby Academy defeat Lakeside Academy in the first round of the AISA 1A playoffs

Ingram finished the game rushing for 64 yards on 13 carries and completing 10-of-13 passes for 118 yards.

&8220;Jake helped us out running the ball,&8221; head coach Dewayne Kervin said of his quarterback. &8220;He had a few big scrambles for us tonight.&8221;

McBride led the Raiders on the ground, however, with most of his yards coming in the second half.

&8220;He played big for us tonight,&8221; Kervin said. &8220;This was, by far, his best game of the season.&8221;

Shelby Academy took only a 6-point lead into the locker room at halftime, unusual for a team that scored 40 or more points in eight of its games this season. Kervin said his team was not ready for Lakeside’s high level of play.

&8220;I think our kids thought this game would be easier than it was,&8221; he said &8220;They ended up getting a good battle from Lakeside.&8221;

The Raiders scored on a seven-yard run from Ingram in the first quarter, but Kervin said his team struggled for most of the first half.

&8220;I was really frustrated with the first half, he said. &8220;But they came out and played a good second half.&8221;

Colby Green kicked a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter and Ingram wrapped up the Raiders’ scoring on a run of five yards in the third and a scamper of 12 yards in the fourth.

Shelby Academy will face unbeaten Autauga Academy (11-0) this Friday in the second round. Kervin said he was proud of his team’s performance but let them know after the game they have a lot of work to do.

&8220;We have got to understand that we’re playing Autauga next weekend,&8221; Kervin said after the game. &8220;They beat us 41-14 last year. I don’t know what else needs to be said. If we played Autauga tonight we might not have won.&8221;

Friday night’s second round game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff
