County runners compete at state meet

Both Briarwood Christian and Oak Mountain’s girls and boys cross country team placed in the top five at the AHSAA state meet Saturday.
On the boys side, Oak Mountain was led by sophomore Tyler Crane as the Eagles took fourth place in the 6A boys’ race. Crane finished with a time of 16:09.04 in the race. Mark Fleming was the second runner across the line for the Eagles, finishing in a time of 16:43.67.
The Briarwood Lion boys took fifth place in the 5A race, with Andrew Price coming across the line first for the Lions in seventh place with a time of 17:14.23.
Shelby County finished 12th in the 5A race with Kullen Williams taking the top place for the Wildcats with a 45th place finish in a time of 19:16.30.
The Indian Springs boys team finished 10th overall in the 3A-4A race, led by Ryan Henderson who finished 31st in the race with a time of 18:55.26.
In the girls’ 6A championships, the Oak Mountain Eagles finished sixth. OMHS was led by Raley Burnett who finished in 24th place in a time of 19:53.62.
The Briarwood Lions took fourth in the 5A championship, led by Cathryn Albright’s 14th place finish in a time of 20:14.68.
Other teams sending runners to this year’s state meet included Pelham, Spain Park, Shelby County and Indian Springs girls’ and
Thompson and Vincent boys.
