Wylodine White Hill

Wylodine White Hill of Columbiana died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center following a brief illness.

She began her 33-year career in education as secretary to principal Jack Upchurch at Shelby County High School in 1953. After finishing her degree, she taught business education at SCHS where she also served as senior class sponsor and sponsor of the school yearbook.

In the late 1960s, she transferred to the Shelby County Training School and then to the Shelby County Vocational School. Later, she became administrative coordinator to former superintendents Charles Knowles and Ellie Glasscox until her retirement in 1986. As a business educator, she was a member of NBEA, AEA and treasurer of the Alpha Nu chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma for many years.

She made a tremendous impact on the lives of her many students as well as the staff members with whom she worked.

She was also a member of the Koinonia Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Columbiana as well as the Columbiana Culture Club and a founding member of the Columbiana Vignette Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dessel Falkner White and Walter B. White, and her grandson, Jon Michael Hill.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Elvin Hill; four children, Nancy (Roger) Indorf of Virginia Beach, Va., Peg Hill of Columbiana, Mike (Carol) Hill of Columbiana and Jeff (Valerie) Hill of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; her grandchildren, Hayden (Eric) Jeffries of Columbiana and Hunter Hill of Columbiana; her great-grandchildren, Cole, Morgan and Cason Jeffries of Columbiana; her step-grandchildren, Wade Berry of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Gretchen Berry of Winder, Ga.; and three brothers, Billy B. White, Milton F. White Sr. and Walter B. White Jr., all of Columbiana.

Service was Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Columbiana, the Revs. Mike Miller and Charles Stroud presiding and Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Hunter Hill, Eric Jeffries, Wade Berry, Terry Falkner, Jeff Falkner, Jim White, Milton White Jr. and Evan Major.
