Shelby County will provide about 800 flu shots during a clinic Dec. 12.

The county received the additional vaccinations from the Alabama Department of Public Health, which released an additional 20,000 doses this week.

Until now, the county has been out of vaccinations.

The clinic will be held at the Shelby County Health Department, located at 2000 County Services Drive in Pelham, from 8-11 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. or as long as the additional dosages last.

The Shelby County Health Department is still fielding a lot of calls from residents looking for flu shots, said Rena Davis.

&8220;We are pleased that we can now vaccinate and help protect more people from influenza,&8221; said Dr. Donald Williamson, state health officer.

&8220;In Alabama, influenza usually peaks during the months of January and February, and so it’s not too late to be immunized.&8221;
