Founded in 1972, Columbiana Church of the Nazarene takes strides to make people the focus of their ministry. With a membership of about 115 people, the Church on Highway 25 in Columbiana is led by Rev. Bob Milton.
Milton graduated in 1982 from Trevecca Nazarene College with a bachelor’s degree in Religion, followed by a master’s degree in Biblical Studies from Trevecca Nazarene University in 2001.
Milton, who was raised in Virginia, has also pastored at churches in Oneonta, Alabama, and others in Florida and Virginia.
The congregation meets for worship Sunday mornings at 10:45 and during the evening at 6 p.m. Sunday School is held at 9:45 a.m. and Bible Study is at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The church conducts various activities including a youth meeting held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, children’s church Sunday at 10:45 a.m., children’s service Wednesday at 7 p.m., and a women’s group that meets once a month.
Milton said the church focuses on people in order to fulfill the message of Christ.
&8220;We love people and believe that the love of Jesus can change lives,&8221; he said. &8220;We have a strong prayer focus here at our church and encourage our congregation to find needs and share them with the church for prayer.&8221;
The role of the church in society is to minister to the needs of hurting people and to show the love of Jesus, Milton said.
Columbiana Church of the Nazarene gave out 50 food baskets during Thanksgiving to needy families, and is involved in ministering to the homeless in Birmingham.
