Girl’s basketball summary: Phillips leads Lions over Trojans

The Kingwood Lady Lions spent little time disposing of the Meadowview Trojans Monday night, winning easily, 58-35, to advance their record to 9-1 on the season.

The Lions hit 11 three pointers in the game, with standout guard Hannah Phillips knocking down four shots from behind the arc.

&8220;I was really pleased with our outside shooting,&8221; Kingwood head coach Jerry Stearns said.

Phillips finished the game with 23 points, three rebounds and five steals to lead the Lions in scoring.

&8220;She played a very good ballgame. We’ve been working real hard on our outside shooting and our other guards started freeing her up a little bit when they started hitting shots.&8221;

Dee Marshall scored 12 points for the Lions in the victory and also had five rebounds.

The Lady Lions now prepare for the upcoming Kingwood Tournament that starts this Friday.

Thompson 68, Shades Valley 29:

The Thompson Lady Warriors soundly defeated Shades Valley Monday night, 68-29.

The Warriors were led by Chasity Herron, who scored 15 points and had six rebounds for Thompson. Rhonda Watts finished with 12 points for the Lady Warriors.

Hoover 65, Pelham 26:

The Hoover Buccaneers used a press defense for the majority of the game Friday night against Pelham, wearing down the Panthers and eventually winning, 65-26.

The Bucs finished the game with 34 steals, forcing 43 turnovers and not allowing Pelham to find any rhythm.

The Panther’s hosted the Thomspon Lady Warriors last night and travel to Vestavia Hills on Friday.

Jefferson Christian 40, Coosa Valley 36:

The Coosa Valley Lady Rebels fell to 5-5 on the season Friday with a 40-36 loss at the hands of Jefferson Christian Academy.

The Rebels were led in scoring by Kimberli Rutledge, who finished the game with 26 points for Coosa Valley.

The Lady Rebels will next be in action in their home tournament beginning this Friday.

Holy Family 53, Vincent 46:

The Vincent Yellow Jackets fell to Holy Family, 53-46, Friday night, despite hard efforts by the Jackets’ Adreian Datcher and Niesha Dates.

Datcher finished with 11 points while Dates added 10.

Shelby Academy 26, Cornerstone 23:

The Shelby Academy Raiders broke a three-game losing streak Friday night, defeating Cornerstone Christian, 26-23. The Raiders were led by Paris Reneau, who finished the game with 13 points.

Cornerstone’s Beth Willis had 15 points for the Chargers.

Briarwood 50, Oxford 33:

The Briarwood Lady Lions soundly defeated Oxford Friday night, 50-33, thanks to Ruth Ketcham’s 23 points. The win moved the Lions to 7-0 on the season.

Spain Park 57, Oak Mountain 31:

Spain Park’s Tiaren Young scored 21 points while teammates Ashley Bowler and Lauren Dunning each netted 10 in the Jags’ 57-31 defeated of Oak Mountain Friday night.

Spain Park hosted Hoover last night and plays Mountain Brook this Friday.

Indian Springs turned the ball over 50 times on their way to a 47-18 loss at the hands of the Knights Friday night
