Jags Pugh takes second at Hoover, Watkins first at Leeds

The Spain Park Jags split their team this past weekend, sending six wrestlers to the Scott Rohrer Invitational at Hoover High School, and the remainder of the team to the Greenwave Invitational Tournament at Leeds High School.
At Hoover, Chris Goodwin (140-pound) placed third, defeating Khalid Arafeh of Hoover, 11-3.
Andrew Noto (189-pound) had to forfeit his final match due to an injury in the semifinals and took home fourth place.
Ryan Pugh (275-pound) lost to Bradley Conner of Starr&8217;s Mill, Ga.,
3-1, taking second place in his class.
Meanwhile, in Leeds although not competing with a full team, the Jags were able to take second place in the tournament with 132 points behind Hueytown&8217;s 134 points.
Moody High School placed third with 106.5 points.
The top wrestler for Spain Park was Wes Watkins (135-pound) who won all four of his matches with pins giving him the maximum possible team points of any wrestler. Watkins was named the tournament champion.
Placing second for the Jags were Will Gurley (103-pound) with two pins; Bo Bishop (145-pound) with two pins and one major decision; and Eric Jones (275-pound) with two pins and one decision.
Winning their consolation final match and placing third were Brandon Neal (130-pound) with two pins and two decisions and Steven Schallau (140-pound) with one pin and two decisions.
Taylor Chapman (125-pound) had one pin and one decision while Jon Michael Lord (160-pound) had one pin
