Richardson, Laporte take firsts at Bob Jones Invite

Oak Mountain&8217;s Ross Laporte and Joe Gibson dominated the boys&8217; 800-meter run Saturday at the Bob Jones Indoor Track Invitational held in Priceville at the Celebration arena.

In the final regular-season indoor meet, Laporte and Gibson went one and two in the half-mile event, finishing in times of 2:01.99 and 2:02.80 respectively.

The Eagles&8217; Sarah Richardson and Lindy Gfeller both finished in the top three on the girls&8217; side, with Richardson taking home first place in the high jump and Gfeller finishing third in the 400-meter dash.

Richardson won her event with a leap of five feet, two inches while Gfeller finished second in her race in a time of 1:02.19.

The Oak Mountain boys 4×800 team took home the Eagles&8217; other third-place finish with a time 8:23.58.

The Eagle boys squad finished sixth overall with 26 points while Oak Mountain&8217;s girls finished fourth with 31 points in the girl&8217;s competition.

Hoover&8217;s boys squad took home first place with 75.5 points while the Northridge girls finished in first with 74 total points.

The state indoor track and field championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Priceville.

The Spain Park and Oak Mountain boys squads are ranked seventh and eight respectively in 6A, while the Eagle girls are ranked sixth
