Wilson takes reins at hospital

David C. Wilson was named president of Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

The announcement was made by Baptist Health System senior vice president and chief operating officer Mark Bryan.

Wilson will begin his new position with Shelby Baptist on Feb. 20.

&8220;David brings 17 years of experience in hospital administration and a history of running hospitals that achieve top-rated patient satisfaction as well as high employee satisfaction scores,&8221; Bryan said.

Wilson comes to Shelby Baptist from Saint Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tenn., where he served as chief executive officer.

He has also served as chief executive officer at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma, Tenn., and Medical Center of Manchester in Manchester, Tenn.

He received his master&8217;s degree in health administration, graduating with honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1989.

He earned a bachelor&8217;s degree in zoology and a bachelor&8217;s degree in biology, both with honors, at the University of Tennessee.

&8220;We are very pleased to have found a person of David&8217;s caliber to fill the president&8217;s position at Shelby Baptist Medical Center,&8221; Bryan said.

&8220;I would also like to thank Shelby&8217;s chief operating officer Scott Williams for his leadership and the additional responsibilities he has handled as interim president for the past few months during this search.&8221;

Shelby Baptist Medical Center is a 192-bed acute care facility and the only medical center located in Shelby County, the state&8217;s fastest growing area.

Shelby&8217;s wide range of services include a heart program and open-heart surgery, a cancer center, obstetrics, emergency services, open MRI, a one-day surgery center, a digestive disease center and a sleep lab.

Its medical staff and other health professionals serve communities in Shelby, Bibb and Chilton counties.

Shelby Baptist is part of Baptist Health System&8217;s faith-based healing ministry
