Shelby County High School&8217;s Bruce Breland has resigned his position as head football coach and athletic director, school principal Gene Rogers confirmed Tuesday.
&8220;Coach Breland submitted his letter of resignation to us on Friday,&8221; Rogers said. &8220;He met with the team on Friday afternoon to let them know.&8221;
Rogers said
he was appreciative for all that Breland had done for the school.
&8220;We would like to express our gratitude to Coach Breland,&8221; he said. &8220;He has done a lot for our football program and the school over the past two years.&8221;
Rogers said he has now begun the process of fining a new coach and athletic director, but admitted that hiring one person for both positions is still up in the air.
&8220;We definitely want somebody in place before spring practice,&8221; Rogers said. &8220;We have a quality staff here already and will have to determine along the way just what kind of candidate we&8217;re looking for.&8221;
Rogers said he feels like Shelby County High School has much to offer an incoming coach.
&8220;We feel like our schools in a very good situation right now for somebody to step in to.&8221;
Breland was unavailable for comment at press time
