Kingwood Church in Alabaster is led by pastor Ron Cox. Cox, who is a native of Indianapolis, Ind., has served as pastor at the church since 1975. His wife, Susanne, served as a missionary to India prior to their marriage and both of the Cox&8217;s daughters now work in the ministry.
Cox said Kingwood Church is characterized by good leadership.
&8220;People aren&8217;t looking only for a gifted orator or a theologian in a pastor, but they are looking for someone who will care for them and lead them with vision,&8221; he said. &8220;Those characteristics have really come to define the leadership of our church.&8221;
Kingwood Church offers a large variety of ministries for its members, and the community, to be involved in.
The church helps run the Birmingham Dream Center, which is aimed at the needs of inner-city Birmingham area. Every Saturday volunteers from Kingwood and various other churches participate in outreaches to eight of the most difficult neighborhoods in the city.
Other ministries offered by the church include men&8217;s and women&8217;s, marriage and family, young adults and drama and music.
The church also offers regular Sunday School classes, prayer times and evangelistic ministries.
Kingwood Christian School, which was founded by members of Kingwood Church, offers full time Christian education for students as an alternative to public schools.
