Montevallo baseball wins big in rubber-match 12-7

The rubber game of a three-game series between the University of Montevallo and Northwest Missouri State University was decided in one inning on Saturday.

UM scored eight runs in the second inning en route to a 12-7 victory over the Bearcats in a non-conference baseball game at Johnson Field.

The Falcons scattered 17 hits in the game. Daniel Furuto and Francisco Perez collected three hits each while Dave Nanney went 1-for-3 and drove in three runs.

Jeremy Joyce earned the victory on the mound which was his third of the season.

NWMSU (2-5) scored three runs in the first inning, but UM responded with eight runs in the second.

J.D. Pruitt had and Jared Myrick had RBI singles each while Travis Fultz and Dave Nanney had a two-RBI singles in the inning. Nanney later stole home on the front end of a double steal.

After NMSU scored a run in the top of the third inning UM added four runs in the bottom of the third. Furuto had a two-RBI single and Nanney produced another RBI on a groundout.

NMSU scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to close out the scoring.
