Caleras Dowdell, THSs Williams to play in Alabama-Mississippi game

Thompson&8217;s Tamara Williams and Calera&8217;s Shanavia Dowdell will represent Shelby County and Alabama on March 24 in the 16th annual Alabama-Mississippi All Star girls basketball game at the Pelham Civic Complex.

Both girls played crucial roles in their respective teams&8217; trips to the AHSAA playoffs this season, with Dowdell leading the Eagles to the 2A Southwestern Regional championship.

Both seniors have already signed letters of intent with high profile women&8217;s basketball schools.

Dowdell plans to attend Louisiana Tech University in the fall while Williams will head to Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama.

Player selections were made from nominations received from coaches of all classes from around the state. The selection committee is composed of the 2006 state championship coaches plus members of the basketball coaches&8217; committee.

Tip-off times are 6 p.m. for the girls&8217; game and 8 p.m. for the boys&8217; contest, with all players reporting to Pelham March 22 for practice
