SPECIAL TO THE REPORTER

Volunteers are needed to touch the lives of the seniors in Shelby County. The county has a variety of services available for those 60 and older, and in some cases, 55 and older.

Senior Centers are scattered throughout the county providing daytime activities, a place to relax and even to enjoy a meal.

Through the Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging, services are available such as Meals on Wheels (providing meals to our homebound citizens) and SenioRx (providing medications at a reduced cost for eligible seniors).

There are even programs in place to touch the lives of seniors who live in assisted living and skilled nursing communities.
