Alabaster Church of God was founded on July 25, 1971. Since then, the church has grown and become an integral part of the surrounding community.

The Church was developed out of a tent meeting promoted by the Church of God Evangelism Department, with the tent revival being held at the old Alabaster Post Office. The charter members first met at the Siluria YMCA until it could build its own building.

The church has seen a number of leaders in its time, and is currently pastored by Robert W. Barnes.

Barnes received his first credentials with the Church of God in 1981 and was ordained in 1986. He currently holds the rank of ordained bishop.

He received his first credentials with the Church of God in 1981 and was ordained in 1986, currently holding the rank of Ordained Bishop.

After a career with USX Corporation, Barnes assumed his first full time pastorate in February of 1986.

Since then, he has served as pastor for five other churches before coming to Alabaster in February of 2000.

Prior to entering full time ministry, he served from 1968 until 1986 in numerous lay and ministry positions in his home church, Adamsville Church of God.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies from Lee University and a Master of Divinity degree from the Church of God Theological Seminary.

He has served one term on the Evangelism and Home Missions Board and two terms on the State Council of the Church of God in Alabama.

Currently he serves on the State Board of Education, the Ministerial Internship Committee and is chairman of the New Minister Assessment and Orientation Committee.

He also teaches biblical studies classes at Lee University Extension in Birmingham.

He has been married to his wife Patricia for 46.
