Columbiana to participate in flood program

Columbiana will participate in the National Flood Insurance Program.

The Columbiana City Council recently approved an application for admittance to the National Flood Insurance Program in order for the city to be eligible to receive Federal Emergency Management Agency grant funds.

The city also approved a National Flood Prevention Ordinance to go along with that participation.

In another matter, the council approved the employment of Christopher Allen Lee as a fulltime wastewater treatment operator trainee. He will begin at Pay Grade VII, Step 1 upon completion of notice to his present employer.

The council approved the purchase of materials for the Columbiana Girl&8217;s Softball League to build a retaining wall and paint the girls&8217; softball field at a cost between $700 and $800.

Approved without a vote were consent agenda items including:

uApril 4 regular council minutes.

uPayment of accounts listed on an April 18 printout.

uAppointment to Zack Kellis to the Planning and Zoning Commission to fill the unexpired term of Keith Wheeler.

uResignation of Teresa Morton from the Columbiana Public Library.

uIncrease in pay for Officer Sasha Lilly from Pay Grade X, Step 3 to Pay Grade X, Step 4 for completion of the police academy.

uPayment of invoices to Tupelo Fire Equipment in the amount of $3,416.24 for turnout gear and of

$16,506 to NAFECO Fire Equipment for turnout gear (all paid from Homeland Security Grant funds)
