Dear Editor,

Recently, seven Shelby County High School students were honored at a banquet for Leadership Shelby County. The seven students were more than any other school in the Shelby County System. Based on the fact that in most academic categories monitored by the state Shelby County High School is at or below average, this is a very positive achievement.

The Banquet was attended by most of the principals at the other Shelby County high schools and some members of the board of education. Where was the principal of Shelby County High School? He was introducing a new football coach to the parents of the football players. I am sure that the Athletic Director was fully capable of performing that task.

Our principal should have been at the leadership banquet to show that his priorities are in academics, where they belong.
