Dessie M. Smith, 88, of Shelby died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at a local nursing home.

She was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Shelby.

She is survived by her children, Elsie (Hobson) Vansant, Fredrick Smith, Frankie (Brenda) Smith and Beverly (Paul) McWhorter; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Cleckler; one brother, J.D. Davis; and a host of other family and friends.

Service was May 6 at 2 p.m. at Bolton-Letlow Chapel with burial following in Shelby Garden of Rest Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing
