The Cornerstone Christian Lady Chargers came up just short of and AISA state softball championship, losing to Lakeside Academy 10-1 on Saturday to finish third in the tournament.

Cornerstone finished the season with a 15-5 record.

With only three upperclassmen on the team, the Lady Chargers surprised many of their opponents this season.

&8220;I am extremely proud of the way we played this season,&8221; Chargers head coach Mark Armstrong said. &8220;We have a great foundation to build on in the coming years.&8221;

The loss to Lakeside marked the end of two seniors&8217; careers as Lady Chargers.

Catcher Mary Beth Willis and pitcher Keyla Finley played their final games on Saturday.

Finley finished the year with a 16-5 overall record on the mound for Cornerstone.

Armstrong expressed how important the two girls meant to his squad this year.

&8220;They&8217;re coaches on the field and leaders throughout the season,&8221; he said. &8220;They know what it means to work hard and have spent five to six years getting to the point where they are now.&8221;
