Raven Lewis, an 11-year-old fifth grade student at Elvin Hill Elementary, is Shelby County Reporter Student of the Week.

Betsy Hillman, principal at Elvin Hill, selected her for the honor.

&8220;Raven is a hard worker. She is always eager to help her teacher and peers. She is very soft spoken and kindhearted. She is also very smart,&8221; Hillman said.

Raven is the daughter of Shantele and Raegan Lewis and has one sister, Cheyanne Lewis, age 13.

She is the granddaughter of Paul and Patsy Tessier and Bill and Bennie Elliott.

Her favorite subject in school is math.

&8220;It&8217;s the easiest to learn,&8221; Raven said. And she pointed out her favorite math problems concern fractions.

Raven said her favorite teacher is Jessica Lester, who teaches fifth grade at Elvin Hill.

When asked why, Raven said, &8220;Because when I have trouble, she helps me understand it better.&8221;

And, she added, &8220;She&8217;s nice.&8221;

Raven said her favorite teacher also lets students do reading projects.

Raven has earned honors such as being named to the AB Honor Roll and as Good Citizen of the Month.

She also received the Presidential Academic Fitness Award based on SAT scores and grades.

Raven said she likes to play soccer but doesn&8217;t play on a team. She likes to draw landscapes and likes to cook perogies with her mom.

She said her dad is her favorite superhero because she gets to spend time

with him, he has a good job and &8220;takes care of us.&8221;

Raven said she plans to go to college but isn&8217;t sure where just yet. She said she wants to be either an artist or a chef.

An artist, she said, &8220;because with art I can share my paintings with others.&8221; And a chef, &8220;I could teach and show people recipes and other foods,&8221; Raven said
