FROM STAFF REPORTS

Calera officials have ruled a fire that damaged a local clinic as arson.

Calera fire chief Tommy Moon said the fire at the Chilton-Shelby Mental Health Clinic on June 14 began in a storage closet.

Calera Fire Marshal Hilton Shirey said an investigation was under way but that it was apparent that the blaze had been intentionally set.

No further information into the investigation was available at presstime.

The fire damaged a large portion of the clinic, but firefighters were able to save important documents for patients and staff.

The clinic, located on Hamilton Lane of Highway 31, regularly treats patients during the week.

Clinic officials said patients would be treated at their homes until the damages could be repaired
