Drug task force makes six arrests

Five suspects were arrested in the Creswell community near Highway 280 by the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force on June 21 and charged with the illegal sale of cocaine and crack cocaine.

Members of the task force, with deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff&8217;s Office and police officers from the Harpersville and Vincent police departments, went to a residence in the Creswell community to execute arrest warrants on Desmond Cordero Bean.

According to a Shelby County sheriff&8217;s release, Bean, along with three other adults and one juvenile, were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Shelby County Jail.

&8220;These arrests should further emphasize that we will not accept the sale of illegal drugs anywhere within Shelby County,&8221; Shelby County sheriff Chris Curry. &8220;The task force will continue to identify, investigate and arrest, when appropriate, anyone in our county that sells illegal drugs.&8221;

Approximately 4.25 ounces of powder cocaine and crack cocaine combined, along with $5,782.00 in U.S. currency were seized during the arrests.

The adult suspects arrested were identified as Desmond Cordero Bean, 19, of Harpersville; Charles Hamilton, 57, of Childersburg; Clifton Garnell Robertson, 18, of Vincent and Hosey Kevin Datcher, 44, of Harpersville.

Bean is charged with four counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, one count of trafficking in cocaine, one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

His bonds total $1,095,000.

The other four suspects face charges ranging from unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia to unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
