Jefferson State Community College will implement a new Licensed Practical Nursing Program beginning this fall semester. Students completing the three-semester program will be awarded a certificate and will be eligible to sit for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Exam to become a licensed practical nurse.

&8220;The program will serve students by providing another avenue for the development of career skills and will also provide educational mobility for students who wish to pursue a registered nursing career,&8221; said Jefferson State Nursing Advisor James Buxton. &8220;The program will also serve the community by providing much needed health care providers.&8221;

In addition to classroom presentation of theory, students will rotate through various health care facilities. The program will place emphasis on basic skills needed to care for clients.

Applications for the first class must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on July 7, 2006. For additional information, contact Jefferson Campus Nursing/Allied Health Advisors James Buxton at (205) 856-7757 or Tiffany Connell at the Shelby Campus at (205) 520-5902.
