Khushee Modi, a 7-year old who will be entering the second grade at Helena Elementary in the fall, is Shelby County Reporter Reader of the Week.
Victoria J. Ashford, director for the Jane B. Holmes Public Library in Helena, selected her for the honor.
Ashford said she chose Khushee because of &8220;her energy and her enthusiasm about reading&8221; and because, &8220;she has an inquiring mind.&8221;
She also said the library is a family affair for the Modi family. And she said Khushee &8220;has an infectious smile and is a good reader.&8221;
Khushee is the daughter of Jay and Shetal Modi and the granddaughter of Jayendra and Aruna Modi. She has one brother, Krish Modi, age 2.
Khushee has already read 11 books this summer and plans to read 25 by July 26.
She said she likes mystery books such as &8220;Cam Jansen&8221; by David Adler and &8220;Arthur&8221; books by Mark Brown.
She also said she likes to read about science: &8220;Because when I read it gets interesting and when I keep on reading it gets fun.&8221;
Khushee&8217;s interest in science is not surprising when one learns she wants to become a children&8217;s doctor when she grows up. She said she particularly likes to read about the tools doctors use.
Why become a children&8217;s doctor? Khushee said, &8220;Because children kind of don&8217;t know what&8217;s in them and you have to tell them sometimes.&8221; And she said of that information, &8220;It&8217;s in books of science.&8221;
Khushee said she plans to go to college someday, but she&8217;s not sure where just yet.
Khushee said she takes her books home to read. But she said of the library, &8220;They always have the books I want. People are nice.&8221;
Ashford said now that she knows Khushee wants to become a doctor and is interested in science, she knows how to guide Khushee in her reading
