THS cheerleaders take first at tourney

The Thompson High School cheerleaders attended the UCA camp in Tuscaloosa on campus at the University of Alabama from May 30 to June 2.

Over 1500 cheerleaders from area schools participated.

Thompson competed in the large varsity squad category (18-25 girls) and took home the first place trophy in that category.

There were eight squads in the large varsity category.

In addition, five THS seniors tried out for the UCA All-stars. An honor for the cheerleaders chosen to represent their squad in the UCA.

They were all chosen and received a UCA All-star metal and an invitation to the UCA finals in London, England next fall.

The five seniors chosen were Cassy Flowers, Elizabeth Gibbs, Abby Harlow, Alex Poor, and Lauren Walters.

Another award was given to the THS mascot, Kara Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald received a superior award in the mascot category.

Members of the THS varsity squad include seniors Cassy Flowers, Elizabeth Gibbs, Abby Harlow, Rhyan Hurn, Weezie McKenzie, Alex Poor, Allison Powers, Emily Smith, Lauren Walters and Brittany Worthy; and juniors Shelley Betts, Charity Conn, Lindsay Brown, Emily Edwards, Kaitlyn Frantom, Kayla King, Cori Powell and Lauren Williams. The squad is coached by Brooke Justice while Jill Bertella serves as assistant coach
