Hospital officials and the Alabaster fire marshal are investigating a small fire that broke out in two laundry rooms at Baptist Shelby Medical Center Wednesday night.

Hospital spokesperson April Holcomb confirmed on Wednesday that the fire began in two rooms, with access restricted to the public, around 7:45 p.m. She said the hospital was evacuated as a precautionary measure.

According to media reports, the two rooms filled with smoke and the hospital’s water system was triggered.

Holcomb said that Alabaster fire marshal Skip Leslie ordered the evacuation of the hospital as a precautionary measure.

No one was injured by the blaze, and Holcomb said services at the hospital returned to normal around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evening
