A Birmingham man has been charged with arson in connection with an Aug. 26 fire that destroyed a home and two vehicles in Wilsonville.

Victor Darnell Brown, 21 and an acquaintance of the victims, has been released from the Shelby County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Firefighters from the Kingdom, Wilsonville and Columbiana Fire Departments along with Southeast Shelby Medical Service responded to a fire in the 1000 block of Lake Forest Lane around 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

Brown was arrested following an investigation by the three fire departments, the Sheriff&8217;s Department and the state Fire Marshal&8217;s Office.

&8220;Very soon into the investigation we realized it was a case of arson,&8221; said Captain Chris Corbell, of the Shelby County Sheriff&8217;s Department.

Corbell declined to comment on a motive for the arson. Three people inside the home escaped without injury.

&8220;This is an excellent example of inter-agency cooperation between the local fire service, state law enforcement, and local law enforcement to apprehend a wanted individual,&8221; said Sheriff Chris Curry. &8220;It is very fortunate that there was no loss of life in the very fast moving fire, but a tragic loss of a beautiful residence.&8221;
