The investigation continues into a blaze in Alabaster that killed 21 dogs at a pet grooming business.
The fire was reported at Adorable Cuts by Linda, which is located on Shelby County 17, on Aug. 22 around 6 p.m. The business, which was maintained in a single-wide trailer, was a total loss along with the lives of 21 of the 22 dogs kenneled inside.
Owner Linda McMillian said that all of the dogs killed in the fire were not customers&8217; and belonged to her. All of the dogs were small breeds, McMillian said, such as terriers.
Units from the Alabaster Fire Department were first on the scene, followed by the County 17 Volunteer Fire Department, which covers the area.
County 17 Fire Chief Jason Carter said the trailer was completely engulfed in flames when trucks arrived, leaving little chance to save the animals inside.
A passerby was able to rescue one animal from the blaze after seeing that the trailer was on fire. McMillian said the passerby was helped by two children from the community in saving the animal.
In addition to offering grooming service, McMillian also sold puppies and took in stray and abandoned dogs
