Panthers pick up win at Hueytown

The Pelham Panthers pulled off a huge win in 6A football last Friday night, after going on the road to defeat region foe Hueytown.
Pelham (3-1, 3-0) downed the Gophers 27-21 in an exciting up and down contest and will host 6A Oxford in a non-region match this Friday night.
&8220;It was a good win for us, a big region win,&8221; said Pelham head football coach Brett Burnett.
Burnett said his Panthers had a chance to put the contest away and go up by three scores but were unable take advantage.
Still he credited his offense for 171 yards rushing yards behind the offensive line.
Wes Holland rushed 20 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Thomason completed 13 of 17 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown and Drew Roy caught a 6-yard touchdown strike.
Defensively Burnett noted the play Jarrod Wood, Kam Paschel and Carl Valentine and Chris Brice, who had 10 tackles.
Pelham struck first on a 5-yard Holland run and a pass from Thomason to Roy in the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead. Daniel Jackson added the PATs.
Hueytown responded with an 8-yard touchdown run before Brandale Oliver returned a fumble 14-yards for the Panthers to go up 21-7.
Hueytown responded with another 8-yard touchdown run to remain close at 21-14 through three quarters.
Holland scored the final Panther touchdown on a 4-yard scamper. And despite the missed PAT, Hueytown&8217;s last score of the night left the Gophers 6 points short
