The Montevallo Bulldogs have lost only one game this season and are coming off a 24-21 road win over West Blocton. MHS head football coach Jim King was not pleased with his team&8217;s performance, however.
&8220;It was good to get the win,&8221; he said of the contest against non-region foe West Blocton. But, he stressed, &8220;We didn&8217;t play well.&8221;
King was most concerned that his team moved the ball between the 20-yard lines, but had trouble in the red zone.
He said the team was &8220;not totally focused&8221; and &8220;not ready to play&8221; against West Blocton.
He said that has to be corrected with a road game against region opponent Montgomery Academy coming this Friday night.
While the Dawgs are 4-1 overall, they are 2-1 in region play.
The Bulldogs generated 340 yards total offense to 168 for West Blocton.
Phillip Evans rushed 23 times for 175 yards, and Desmond Piper complete three of 11 passes for 80 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The Dawgs trailed 13-12 at the half, but outscored West Blocton 12-8 in the fourth quarter to eke out the win.
Evans scored the first Montevallo touchdown of the night on a 17-yard run in the second quarter.
Evans also score on a 52-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Alex Gaddis collected a 79-yard Piper pass in the second quarter, and
T.J. Cottingham returned an interception 35 yards in the fourth quarter
