Edward Eugene Andrews

Mr. Edward Eugene Andrews of Wilsonville, age 79, died Sunday, Sept. 24 at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home.

A Celebration of Life Service was Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel. He was laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Thomas officiating. Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 12-2 p.m.

Mr. Andrews is survived by his daughter, Jane (Barry) Rich of Southside; two grandsons, Jason (Nena) Rich of Southside and John Rich of Southside; five great-grandchildren, Alec, Carrie, Chandler, Austin and Matthew; ex-wife and good friend, Grace Andrews and numerous friends and extended family members.

Mr. Andrews was born Aug. 17, 1927 to Roy L. and Carlie Christine Andrews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Edward Eugene Andrews, Jr. and by all of his brothers and sisters. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Wilsonville. Mr. Andrews was a graduate of B.B. Comer Memorial High School. He received his B.S. in physical education from Murray State University in Murray, Ky. and was employed by Murray State University and served as swimming coach at Lawson State Junior College. The last eighteen years of his work life were spent as a security policeman at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. Mr. Andrews was a veteran of World War II. He entered the Army in the last month of the war and served nine months in Korea as quartermaster.

Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to Wilsonville Baptist Church or Southside Baptist Church.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.
