Evangel Christian suffered a disappointing 2-point loss at Rocket City (Huntsville) last Friday night.
Making this loss especially disappointing was the fact that the Lightning jumped out to a 14-0 lead over Rocket City, scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter and leading at the half.
Evangel quarterback Isaac Snuggs hit Jacob Snuggs with a 9-yard pass for the first score and connected with Hunter Price on a 17-yard strike for the second.
Rocket City made the necessary adjustments, however, and brought pressure by way of the blitz in the second half.
Still, the Evangel defense hung tough behind the play of Lane Ezell and Lance Hipps.
But the turning point of the contest came when the Lightning found itself backed up near its own end zone and fumbled inside the 5-yard line.
Rocket City scored on a 2-yard run and 2-point conversion.
The opposition delivered the knockout blow with an 83-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and a 2-point conversion.
Isaac Snuggs completed eight of 17 passes for two touchdowns for Evangel. He also rushed 12 times for 51 yards.
Cody Browning caught four passes for 70 yards and Hipps made four tackles.
Evangel will be open this Friday night
