The Vincent Yellow Jackets traveled to Verbena last Friday to play a team one class below them in AHSAA football.

The Red Devils had a rude reception planned.

Verbena downed Vincent (3-2, 3-0) by a margin of 56-2.

Vincent head football coach Dwight Spradley took full blame for the loss. He said he did a poor job of coach and didn&8217;t get the team ready to play.

He also said, &8220;Seventy-three yards total offense and three interceptions will get you beat by anyone.&8221;

Against Verbena the Yellow Jackets gained 37 yards on 30 carries and passed for a total of 36 yards.

Quarterback Corey DeLoach complete two of 14 passes and suffered three interceptions.

Orlando Pelmer carried the ball 17 times for 27 yards.

The only bright spots from the contest were Justin Peterson with 15 tackles and Josh Wallace with 11 tackles.

Vincent scored its only 2 points of the game in the first quarter.

The Yellow Jackets remain undefeated in 2A football, however, and will host region opponent Fultondale this Friday night.
