Funeral service for Evelyn Whitfield, age 85, of Maylene, was at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel.

Burial followed at Shelby Memory Gardens. Visitation was Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Whitfield, who passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 at a local hospital, was born on June 1, 1921 in Shelby County. Mrs. Whitfield was a lifelong resident of Shelby County and the mother of nine children. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Whitfield.

She is survived by her children; Charles Whitfield of Shelby County, Russell Whitfield of Montgomery County, Wayne Whitfield of Shelby County, and Tommy Whitfield of Autauga County; 32 grandchildren; over 65 great-grandchildren; a number of great-great-grandchildren; brothers, C.L. Matherson and Frank Matherson; sister, Dolly Mae Nobles and a host of other family and friends.
