Without two starters and one backup, the Vincent Yellow Jackets went on the road and pulled off a 13-12 region win over Westbrook Christian

last Friday night.

Defensive tackle Desmond Ford and tailback Orlando Pelmer were out before the game began.

Then, when the team&8217;s backup tailback, Tavoris Threatt, got hurt in the first quarter, Vincent head football coach Dwight Spradley called the effort put forth by his team a &8220;gutsy performance.&8221;

The Yellow Jackets found themselves down 12-0 during the start of the game. But when home team missed an extra point and a 2-point conversion, their mistake proved costly.

The Yellow Jackets fought back with a touchdown and extra point in the second quarter and a touchdown in the third.

Justin Peterson scored on a 45-yard pass play from Corey DeLoach and then kicked the extra point that made the difference in the game.

Octavius Looney scored the go ahead touchdown on a 14 yard pass from DeLoach.

The Jackets held on from there to win.

Spradley gave credit to his defense for holding Westbrook Christian back after his Yellow Jackets gave them good field position on four fumbles and an interception.

DeLoach completed eight of 12 passes for 130 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Brown led the Yellow Jackets with 67 yards on 27 attempts.

Leading the defense for Vincent was Peterson with eight tackles and Jacob King with seven tackles.

With the win the Yellow Jackets improved to 4-3, 4-1 and are tied at the top of their region with J. B. Pennington. And that sets up a big region game for homecoming this Friday night against Falkville.
