Lions light up Evangel Christian

The Kingwood Christian Lions defeated Evangel Christian Academy 63-0 last Friday night and clinched second place in AISA 2A Region 2 football.

After scoring 43 points in the first quarter against Evangel Christian, Kingwood head football coach Jerry Stearns was at a loss for words.

However, he did note the play of sophomore third string quarterback Andrew Steele, who had 92 yards on four carries, two touchdowns and a fumble returned 26 yards for a touchdown.

Steele&8217;s rushing touchdowns came on runs of 18 and 37 yards.

Starting quarterback Andrew Pearce completed five of seven passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried seven times for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

Cody Owens had two receptions for 29 yards and two touchdowns. He also had an interception return for 37 yards and a touchdown.

Rounding out offensive performers was Nathan Allen who had two catches for 60 yards and an 8-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

The Lions will close out the regular season hosting 1A Cornerstone Christian School, which should prove an interesting contest.
