Four local positions challenged on Tuesdays general election ballots

While Shelby County voters will see 18 local races on the Alabama general election ballot next Tuesday, only four of those races are contested.

The four competitive races include Alabama Senate, District 16; Alabama House of Representatives, District 42; Shelby County Sheriff and Shelby County School Board, Place 2.

-Russ Parker (D) and incumbent J.T. &8220;Jabo&8221; Waggoner (R) square off in the Senate race. Both Parker and Waggoner were both unopposed in June&8217;s primary election.

-James &8220;Jimmy&8221; Martin (D) faces Allen Caton (R) in the race for the Alabama House of Representatives, District 42.

Both Martin and Caton were also unopposed in there respective party primaries.

-Democratic candidate Charlie O. Loyd Sr. challenges incumbent Chris Curry for the Shelby County Sheriff position.

Loyd was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Curry defeated Jim Walters in the Republican primary.

-The final position contested in next Tuesday&8217;s general election is the Shelby County Board of Education, Place 2.

Democratic candidate Clovia Wheeler challenges incumbent Steve Martin (R) for the position.

Wheeler ran unopposed in this year&8217;s primary, while Martin defeated fellow republican Bragan Baldwin Patterson to advance to Tuesday&8217;s general election.

Fourteen local races will be uncontested on Saturday.

-Senator Hank Erwin retains his District 14 seat in the Alabama Senate after defeating challenger Jon Parker in the June primary.

-Republican Steve French will win the Alabama Senate, District 15 race unopposed.

-Republican representative Mike Hill retains his seat in the Alabama House, District 41.

-Republican Mary Sue McClurkin will run unopposed on Tuesday for the Alabama House, District 43.

-Republican J. Gregory Canfield runs unopposed in the Alabama House, District 48 race.

-Republican Cam Ward runs unopposed on Tuesday and retains his seat in the Alabama House, District 49.

-Republican Jim McClendon runs unopposed for the Alabama House, District 50 seat.

-Shelby County Judge Sonny Conwill retains his seat on the 18th Judicial Court, Place 2.

-Mary Harris runs unopposed on Tuesday and retains her position as Shelby County Circuit Clerk.

-Shelby County Judge of the Probate Court Patricia Yeager Fuhrmeister is running unopposed and will retain her position.

-Diana Steele Hawkins will take the position of Shelby County Coroner after defeating fellow Republican Sherwood Florence in the primary election.

-Former Oak Mountain principal Randy Fuller is unopposed in Tuesday&8217;s election after defeating Gary Minnick and Tom Ferguson in the primary election and runoff.

-Lee Doebler retains his seat on the Shelby County Board of Education, Place No. 1
