Montevallo earns playoff berth with win

The Montevallo Bulldogs needed a fourth region victory to make the state playoff in Class 3A football. They got it on the road with a 42-16 thrashing of B.B. Comer last Friday night.

Montevallo head football coach Jim King said the victory was a &8220;whole team effort.&8221;

He also said he told his team their entire season came down to Friday&8217;s game with B. B. Comer to make the playoffs.

He explained that making playoffs was their goal and his players worked so hard they deserved the success.

The Bulldogs rushed for 438 yards while passing for only 16. They held B.B. Comer to 240 total offense.

Senior running back Phillip Evans had a huge night for the Bulldogs, rushing 15 times for 223 yards.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-0 lead on runs of 23 and 78 yards by Evans and an 18-yard run by senior quarterback Desmond Piper.

Evans also scored on runs of 37 and 17 yards while Kevin Callender got into the action on a 1-yard TD run.

Montevallo led 18-0 in the first quarter and 26-8 at the half. B.B. Comer&8217;s only points came on a 76-yard pass play in the second quarter and a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Before playing as the third seed in Class 3A playoffs, the Bulldogs will host the Vincent Yellow Jackets this Friday night
