Eagles win ninth game

The 3A Calera Eagles (9-1) took care of the 3A Weaver Bearcats at home 40-23 last Friday night and prepare to host Abbeville in the first round of the state playoffs.
The Eagles dominated every phase of the contest with Weaver out rushing the Bearcats 201-70 yards and out passing them 198-111 yards.
In their last game of the regular season, the Eagles were led by Dominique Wilson on the ground with 158 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
Paul Winterbottom directed the aerial attack completing 10 of 22 passes for 198 yards and one touchdown while suffering one interception.
Kaderius Lacey was the leading receiver for the team with 138 yards on five catches.
The contest started out pretty evenly with the Eagles and Bearcats swapping scores and the Eagles actually trailing 15-12 at the half.
Wilson scored on a 10-yrd run and Earl Haynes took in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Winterbottom.
The Eagles took control from there outscoring the Bearcats 28-8.
Chris Cunningham scored on a 47-yard punt return. Winterbottom scored on a 1-yard run, Wilson scored on a 17-yard run, and Lacey scored on a 16-yard run.
The Bearcats got one more touchdown before the horn sounded to go down 40-23.
The Eagles playoff opponent Abbeville this Friday night closed out their regular season with a 22-10 win over Wicksburg.
