A 58-year-old Alabaster man was arrested last Tuesday for sexually abusing two school-aged girls, according to Alabaster police reports.

Donald Ray Bivins, Sr. has been charged with five counts of first-degree sexual abuse and sodomy. As of Friday afternoon, he was being held in the Shelby County Jail on $500,000 bond.

Bivins was indicted by a Shelby County grand jury in November after an 8-month investigation by the Alabaster Police Department&8217;s Criminal Investigations Division. The Alabama Department of Human Resources also assisted with the case.

Police say they first became aware of the accusations against Bivins in March after one of the children spoke to a school counselor. The two girls were between the ages of eight and 12 at the time of the abuse
