A full-service YMCA could be coming to Alabaster, according to Mayor David Frings.

Frings told the city council Monday night that he had met with a YMCA representative about constructing a &8216;full-fledged&8217; facility in Alabaster.

Currently, Alabaster&8217;s YMCA is in a city-owned building and only operates on a part-time basis.

&8220;It is not adequate to do all the services they offer,&8221; said Frings, who expects a resolution to come before the council early next year that will give the YMCA seven to 10 acres of city property.

In return, the city would be able to use some of the facilities too.

The mayor said he is optimistic that the city and YMCA representatives can reach an agreement that works for both parties.

&8220;I would like to get that rolling and see where it can go,&8221; he said.

In other business, the council voted to give pay raises for the 2008 mayor and city council.

The mayor will receive $1,750 per pay period, while council members will earn $500. The council president will also be paid an additional $100 per month
