WWII veteran, scoutmaster dies

Columbiana said goodbye Friday to a World War II veteran, respected science teacher and long-time scoutmaster. Robert Hume, 88, was buried Friday afternoon in the Columbiana City Cemetery with full military honors, including a flyover.
Hume enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served his county for 25 years, flying B-29 bombers. After retirement, Hume taught science at Shelby County High School and saw more than 30 young men become Eagle Scoutd as scoutmaster for Troop 560.
&8220;He didn&8217;t teach from a book, he taught from what he lived,&8221; said Chris House, a former student. &8220;That&8217;s what made him great.&8221;
