Church focus: Growing with the gift of love

Mission with a Vision Deliverance center members gathered Feb. 9 to celebrate love for one another and for God.
&8220;We wanted to give the people something to do for Valentine&8217;s Day,&8221; Pastor Shirley Elms said. &8220;Because as Christians we don&8217;t have a lot of places to go where we can celebrate and feel comfortable.&8221;
This is the church&8217;s second year to hold the Valentine&8217;s Banquet for the community. Participants paid $10 for a night of food and fellowship. The money raised from the banquet will go toward the church&8217;s building fund.
&8220;We are in the process of buying our church building,&8221; Elms said. &8220;So this was an important fund raising event for us.&8221;
The church needs the room for its growing congregation.
Elms said they are proud that part of that growth comes from youth and the events they hold for the community.
&8220;If we could just reach out to the community we will be fulfilling a goal,&8221; Elms said. &8220;That is why we have so many children. We have done things to reach out to them.&8221;
Mission with a Vision hosts a variety of events every year that include a christmas dinner, youth rallies, praise dances and a carnival at the church.
