Several Montevallo High School classrooms will get a high-tech makeover thanks to a $142,000 federal grant.
Eight teachers were awarded an Enhancing Education Through Technology Grant in January.
The teachers will use the money to equip their classrooms with interactive white boards, digital projectors, handheld student response devices and MacBook laptops.
&8220;We are a small school and funds are limited for purchasing technology equipment for the individual classroom teachers,&8221; said Enid Sikes, MHS technology co-coordinator. &8220;These resources will enhance our teaching strategies and encourage more student involvement.&8221;
Students will also use the technology to create podcasts that will be posted online.
Technology Coordinator Susan Poling said that audio and video feeds will allow students to creatively show what they are learning in school.
&8220;We are looking for both teachers and students to adapt to working in a whole new way using this technology,&8221; said Poling.
Grant winning teachers are: Enid Sikes, math; Veronique Zimmerman-Brown, math; Jennifer Turner, social studies; Jessica Reinhardt, math; Michelle Adams, English; Kevin Raybon, math; Erma Hinton, English; and Dawn Cabrera, math
