Alabaster coaches pay up to benefit a good cause

Its not often that you see a P.E. teacher kissing a goat but the students at Meadow View Elementary in Alabaster got the chance after they jumped their way to raising more than


The physical education department at the school challenged students in the kindergarten through third grade classes to raise more than $10,000 for the American Heart Association, as part of the Jump Rope for Heart program.

&8220;Everybody has been effected by heart disease,&8221; said coach Jeff Bell.

The fundraiser lasted a little over two weeks. According to Bell, two days before the contest deadline was to be met, students had only raised about half the hoped for goal.

But within two days students buckled down and not only reached the goal, but exceeded it.

The students held up their end of the bargain, so the coaches had to live up to their end. Coach Carol Spain got four pie pies in the face. Coach Jeff Bell dressed in dress, wig and boa. But the worst fate came when coach Anne Lugar went lip to lip with a goat
