A convicted sex offender, who had been running from Shelby County authorities since January, has been arrested in Birmingham.

U.S. Marshals arrested Stephen Hornfeck around 4 a.m. Friday morning, after receiving a tip on where he was living. Hornfeck, 47, was convicted in October of second-degree burglary and first-degree sexual abuse in Shelby County Circuit Court.

A warrant was issued after he failed to appear for sentencing on Jan. 8.

Sheriff Chris Curry attributed the arrest to law enforcement, the media and the public working well together.

&8220;This is an excellent example of working together to take a wanted individual off the streets,&8221; said Curry.
